The hottest wedding trend for 2008 - Go Green!

Clever Magazine

Are you looking for a distinctive wedding that showcases the most beautiful flowers and is eco-chic? Then 2008 is your year! In 2008, couples want to plan personalized nuptials and hold a unique event that has flair. The top trend for Weddings in 2008 is the green wedding. It was a trend in 2007, but it’s a growing trend for 2008! Many couples are realizing that if we don’t take care of our planet, who will? And while some couples may choose to go completely green, others will implement small changes such as locally grown produce and flowers, use of recycled materials and limiting the use of non-green materials.

Your wedding is a great opportunity to showcase your uniqueness. By choosing to use organic flowers and creating an environmentally conscious special day, you will not only fulfill your wish but inspire your guests to become more eco- friendly. A couple who chooses to use organically grown flowers has thought outside of the box and will be considered a trend setter. They may believe that their choices can impact more than just themselves and one person can make a difference.

While the thought of choosing organically grown flowers for your wedding may conjure up images of barefoot brides with flower halos, clutching hand-picked blooms from the garden, using organically grown flowers doesn’t have to limit your choices or style! Most florists should be able to offer bouquets that are a minimum of 35% organic, along with fashionable centerpieces that can be 100% eco friendly.

It’s easier than you think to throw a great celebration that is also a green bash. Try combining flowers with fruit and vegetables for a spectacular arrangement with a twist. This idea can also work for hip bridal bouquets. Adding a hint of fresh mint to any bride’s hand tied bouquet will calm her senses and look exquisite combined with deep hued blooms. Incorporating bamboo around the bottom of a hand tied bouquet can lend a natural feel that is still very stylized and clean. If you like the way cascade bouquets look, ask if your designer can recreate the look by wiring flowers into that shape without the use of floral foam. Floral foam is a petroleum bi-product that lets of noxious toxins, and is not bio-degradable.

Request your florist order the maximum amount of flowers from locally grown farms, which will ensure less toxic chemicals are used. Less than 30% of flowers grown are done so in the United States where they are more committed to growing flowers in conditions that are free from releasing toxic chemicals into the environment.

In addition, you can also request “living arrangements” for your centerpieces or reception decorations with live blooming plants that will live after the festivities are over. Orchid plants are a stylish alternative to fresh centerpieces that can double as favors for your guests. Smaller blooming plants such as African violets make great name place holders and can also be sent home at the end of the event.

Organic flowers, though limited in comparison to the varieties of conventionally grown flowers, are a conscious way to support the practice of organic flower farming. Continued support purchasing these items will expand the varieties available as people realize the benefit of using organic blossoms.

Just as important as questions like; Is brown the new black, Are brides really wearing two dresses, Should we have cupcakes instead of a traditional cake, is the question of whether to incorporate organic flowers in your event. Integrating some of the latest wedding trends is a splendid way of ensuring your wedding feels fresh and up-to-date, while keeping your ceremony unique and personal.
